Iron Maidens at Art Central, Gale of Glamorgan in Barry Wales, March 2-27
Art Central celebrates International Women’s Day 2010
Professor Teresa Rees, from the Cardiff School of Social Sciences based at Cardiff University, opened the exhibition. Professor Rees, who is an advocate for women’s work and rights, expressed her delight in being asked to open the exhibition and was extremely impressed by the artist talent and the high quality of the artwork on display.
The open exhibition (which runs at the gallery until 27 March) features over 75 examples of art works including an inspiring range of paintings, prints, drawings, photographs and sculptures from women artists across the south Wales area. All the pieces have been selected by the Women’s Arts Association, which works in partnership with practitioners, communities and funding bodies to develop creative opportunities for women across all art forms.
This year, it is also supported by pieces from the Iron Maidens exhibition, consisting of sculptures and drawings by British and American women who work in cast iron.
Dilys Jackson, founder of Iron Maidens, said: “All of us have iron in our blood and working with the medium is an enticing, exciting art form that really does become a way of life. It’s wonderful that this exhibition has been put together as the very nature of casting iron requires artists to work in groups. Many of the women exhibiting, who are from both the UK and the USA, have worked together at some point. It’s a very sociable medium with wonderful results.”
International Women’s Day is a world-wide event which recognises and celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of women.

Made of Dreams at Marion Royael Gallery Feb 13 - Feb-March 11
Marion Royael presents "Made of Dreams" the artwork of Michael Krasowitz, Felicia Glidden and Danielle Andrews
Marion Royael Gallery is pleased to present the artwork of surreal painter Michael Krasowitz, Sculptor Felicia Glidden and the Pop art creations of Danielle Andrews. The exhibition will open Saturday, February 13th with an artists reception from 6-10pm and run through March 11th. All are welcome to attend the reception. For additional information email info@marionroyaelgallery.com
Michael Krasowitz's deconstructs the individual psyche to reach universal truths and archetypes. Krasowitz utilizes techniques of the original surrealists such as automatic drawing and meditation to achieve these goals. Felicia Glidden explores the visual language of the subconscious, to see if it can speak to a larger audience than just the dreamer, through her cast bronze and metal sculptures. Danielle Andrew's paints abstractly with a pop art flair and her work emits a casual feeling of well being.
"Michael Krasowitz's surreal paintings are extremely innovative and well executed ." says Steven Paul Riddle, Co-Owner of the Gallery. "Each of these artists make a very strong statement on their own and to see their individual work in one place at one time, is truly a treat!"
Marion Royael Gallery is located in the midst of the vibrant artistic community of Beacon, New York which boasts many fine art venues, www.beaconarts.org, top notch restaurants and a bevy of interesting and unique boutiques.

Joe Zarra, utilizes a multitude of wooden tiles on panel united with individual scenes to create large edgy abstract paintings; William Lindsay takes his childhood passion to the artistic extreme and offers us a new look into two and three dimensional pop art; Felicia Glidden brings her dream images into the material world casting powerful metal sculptures with a 21st century industrial verve.
"This is an outstanding exhibit," says Barbara Riddle, Co-Owner of the Gallery. "These three contemporary emerging artists compliment each other beautifully and in one spirit bring together the "What" is happening in contemporary art today. The Ped Pex Power Pod relies on visitor's energy and stamina to pedal their way to a cup of hot coffee, tea or cocoa. A social sculpture and experiment in green energy, we are creating bicycle generators and are hoping you, our guests, will have enough pedal power to provide hot drinks for all. We ask visitors to bring a cup or thermos. Although we will have in house mugs, no foam or paper cups will be distributed. Bring your book club or coffee clutch and generate some heat.
